If you are going to be a successful texturing artist, sooner or later you are going to have to figure out how best to project your images onto your models. Often, you can just use any of the normal projection methods, tweak them slightly, and have a lovely textured model.

The basis of any complex texturing on an organic model begins with the creation of a good UV map. However, because of the complexity and variety of methods for creating UVs I have chosen to leave this process out of this tutorial.

A vertex color map is VMap type that lets you color the vertices (i.e., points) in your object mesh. The color for areas in between the vertices is averaged. (The Baker surface shader also uses vertex color maps.)
